The most successful club in Africa Al Ahly, will be hosting AS Vita Club of Congo on Match Day 3 of the CAF Champions League. Going to this match at the Cairo International Stadium, the two sides are tied on three points in Group A. Al Ahly are looking to recover from their 1-0 loss to Simba SC of Tanzania on Match Day 2. The 1-0 loss in Dar es Salaam was just the second in 37 for Al Ahly and they recovered from it with a 2-1 comeback win over El Geish in the Egyptian league. Domestically, they are trailing Zamalek by six points though they have three games in hand. All the focus now shifts to defending their title as they seek a 10th Champions League title. Al Ahly beat Al Merreikh 3-0 at home before slumping to the Simba loss, which ended a six-match winning run in the Champions League. It also remains their only loss in 13 matches in this competition and the only time they’ve failed to score in that run. The Egyptian side will be excited at playing at home, where they have 19 straight wins in this competition and are unbeaten in 30 matches.

AS Vita do not have a profile as big as Al Ahly’s but the Congolese side will be looking to shock their hosts, just like they did with Al Merreikh. After their opening loss at home to Simba, AS Vita toured Sudan and thumped Al Merreikh 4-1. Their loss to Simba remains the only one in their last 27 games and they will be hoping to avoid another Group A loss in their trip to Cairo. AS Vita are unbeaten in 14 away matches, but none of them comes close to this game, in terms of magnitude. Three wins and five losses in their last 10 Champions League matches will definitely not be the run to inspire confidence ahead of such a game. The Congolese side has done even worse away from home in the competition; in the last 12 away matches, they’ve won once, and lost six times. They’ve failed to score in five of their last seven away matches in this competition.
