Wolverhampton Wanderers are bottom of the Premier League after the first five games of the season. They take some time off from those struggles with this Carabao Cup home third round tie against Everton. Can Wolves reach the last 16? Read our match prediction below.

Saturday saw Wolves beaten 3-1 at home by Leeds United and are yet to earn a point this season. One of their losses was a home defeat inflicted by Everton on September 30. Wolves are in round three of this competition for the third successive season and in 2022-23 made it to the quarter-finals.

Everton have made a steady start to the new season with two wins so far. They lost at Anfield on Saturday and will be hoping to get past round three of the Carabao Cup for only the second time in five seasons. The Toffees did get to the last eight in the 2023-24 season and will fancy their chances of progressing.

Wolves - Everton: Form Analysis

Wolves have made a terrible start to the new season but have still given coach Vitor Pereira a new contract. His club are four points from safety after being beaten in each of their first five Premier League fixtures this season.

Some hope looked possible on Saturday as they took the lead at home to Leeds United but then conceded three goals. That makes it 12 in five league fixtures this season with all three games at Molineux lost and ten goals conceded. Three of those were scored by Everton in their away win on August 30.

Wolves only win this season came in the second round of this competition.

That was a 3-2 home win over fellow Premier League strugglers West Ham and they trailed 2-1 going into the 82nd minute of that match. Both teams have scored in three of their last four matches.

Everton also need to bounce back from a weekend league defeat. The Toffees were beaten 2-1 at Liverpool, with both of the goals conceded in the first half at Anfield. That made it two matches without a win for Everton after previously being held to a home goalless draw by Aston Villa.

They had gone four games without defeat before losing at the league champions. To reach this third round of the Carabao Cup, Everton beat League One Mansfield Town 2-0. Two of their last three games have seen both teams score.

Wolves & Everton Squad Analysis

With important Premier League games at the weekend, both clubs will make several changes for this Carabao Cup tie. There will be the opportunity to give some match time to fringe players. Wolves will be wanting a win though, any victory at present will help boost confidence and ease the pressure on their coach.

Everton have gone two games without a win. They will continue to be without summer loan signing Merlin Rohl who was absent from the squad that faced Liverpool on Saturday. Players such as Barry and Armstrong may feature and in-form Jack Grealish is expected to start for Everton.

Will Pickford be in goal?

The Toffees may again opt to rest Pickford for this game.  That's what they did in round two against Mansfield Town with Irish goalkeeper Mark Travers playing between the sticks. There's no replays in the Carabao Cup so this match will be decided on the night.

Our Wolves vs Everton Prediction

Both of these clubs will be wanting a confidence-boosting victory in this Carabao Cup tie. Saturday was another difficult day for Wolves and their fans were extremely vocal as the home slde slumped to a 3-1 loss to Leeds United.

Wolves will hope to find an answer to their defensive problems and won't want a repeat of the recent 3-2 home loss to Everton. The visitors have put in some strong performances this season and will be aiming for a repeat win at Molineux. Our main Wolves v Everton prediction is both teams to score.
