The 2024-25 Conference League gets underway this week, and the first match of a double-header on Wednesday afternoon will see Vitoria Guimaraes playing host to Celje. Os Conquistadores earned entry to this competition by coming sixth in the Primeira Liga while Grofje won 1. SNL. Let’s get into the match prediction.

Vitoria Guimaraes have made a solid start to their domestic league season and will be looking to get their European campaign underway positively as well. 

After the first seven games in the Primeira Liga, Os Vimaranenses have notched up 13 points, including four wins, one draw and two losses. Their most recent match ended in a 1-1 draw away to Casa Pia. 

During qualifying for this competition, Vitoria were flawless, winning all six of their matches without conceding a single goal, while scoring an impressive 17 themselves. 

Meanwhile, after winning the 1. SNL title last season, Celje were unable to secure a spot in the Champions League or the Europa League where they were knocked out in qualifying by Slovan Bratislava and Shamrock Rovers respectively.  

However, they put in a much better effort in this competition, coming from a goal down to overturn Pyunik 4-2 on aggregate in the final qualification match. 

The major concern for Grofje, though, is that their away record is far from impressive, with only two wins posted in their last nine matches on the road across all competitions.
