Scotland - Northern Ireland: Form Analysis
Scotland's past 12 months or so have been a real contrast in terms of ups and downs. They started in superb form, winning their first five European Championship Qualifiers and secured qualification from the group with two games to spare. Since then they have lost four games (to France, England, Spain and most recently, the Netherlands) in somewhat heavy fashion too and drawn two other games against Norway and Georgia. Despite the 4-0 scoreline against the Netherlands, the game was much closer than the score suggests for long periods and manager Steve Clarke will be urging his team to be more ruthless in front of goal in this now crucial home game as they seek to warm up for the finals this summer, where they are drawn in Group A alongside Germany, Switzerland and Hungary.
After their successful performance at Euro 2016, Northern Ireland have struggled to qualify for any of the other major tournaments since. Michael O'Neill, their manager at those finals in France, has been brought back to try and turn things around for the Irish once again. He inherits a very young squad and one without a great deal of top level experience although there are a number of talented youngsters coming through the ranks that offer hope for the future. After another poor qualifying campaign for Euro 2024, Northern Ireland finished strongly with a 2-0 home win over Denmark and then followed that up with a creditable 1-1 draw away to Romania last Friday. Two results that give the team something to build on here.

Scotland & Northern Ireland Squad Analysis
Scotland have been dealt a blow in defence after Grant Hanley and Scott McKenna were both injured in the game with the Netherlands and neither will feature against the Northern Irish on Tuesday. They join Aaron Hickey the Brentford full back and Newcastle youngster Elliot Anderson as injured and unable to play in the game. Callum McGregor and Ryan Jack were not selected for the squad by Steve Clarke who has recalled 41-year-old goalkeeper Craig Gordon back to the squad alongside three other keepers. Liverpool full back Andy Robertson is back form injury and will captain the team. Scotland's real strength is in midfield where Scott McTominay in particular has been in great goalscoring form for the Scots and his club side Manchester United this season while John McGinn has been a star for Aston Villa at the heart of their midfield.
Compared to the Scots, the Northern Irish squad is far less experienced at the highest level and just far less experienced in general terms, especially at international level. Much will be expected from the experienced players in Michael O'Neill's squad, such as Paddy McNair, George Saville, Josh Magennis and Jordan Thompson. Young talents to watch include Liverpool fullback Conor Bradley, Huddersfield Town defender Brodie Spencer and Standard Liege midfielder Isaac Price.
