Roma - Feyenoord: Form Analysis

Roma are still on course to reach a second consecutive Europa League final after they were beaten on penalties by Sevilla last season. I Giallorossi opted to part ways with Jose Mourinho last month, bringing in former midfielder Daniele De Rossi to help improve their poor run of results across the turn of the year. The new boss has won four, drawn one and lost one of his first six games in charge and will come into this match off the back of a 3-0 win over Frosinone last weekend. In the first leg, Roma went a goal down in stoppage time in the first half but managed to level proceedings thanks to a 67th-minute strike from Romelu Lukaku. With that, the Belgian international took his tally to six goals in this competition, which is the joint-most goals scored this season. In three Europa League matches hosted at home this season, Roma have won all nine points available, scoring nine goals and not conceding any.

Meanwhile, Feyenoord will feel they have a score to settle here, as it was this very opponent who sent them crashing out of the competition last season in the quarter-final. In that tie, Feyenoord won the first leg 1-0, but Roma won the second 2-1 to force extra time, where they scored another two goals to claim a 4-2 aggregate win. Last week, Feyenoord were the more attacking side, recording 18 shots at goal and six on target. They arguably will be a tad disappointed that they did not get more from the encounter as they created a few very good opportunities in the closing stages. Still, they are well in this contest and come into the match carrying solid form, including four wins in their last five matches in all competitions and unbeaten in their last 11. However, The Pride of South did not secure a win in any of their three Europa League group stage matches away from home this season.

Roma & Feyenoord Squad Analysis

Roma will have to make do without the services of Edoardo Bove, who will have to serve a one-match suspension owing to an accumulation of yellow cards in the competition. In terms of injuries, Tammy Abraham is the only noted absentee for I Giallorossi, though Lukaku has stepped up in a big way in this competition and will almost certainly lead the line in this match. Chris Smalling was an unused substitute in the first leg and is a slight doubt for this match due to a muscle injury.

Feyenoord, on the other hand, have a handful of casualties at the moment, including first-team goalkeeper Justin Bijlow. In his absence, Timon Wellenreuther is likely to continue between the sticks. Another blow in defence is the absence of Gernot Trauner, who has been ruled out until the start of March with a strained hamstring. Gjivai Zechiel and Thomas van den Belt have not featured at all in this competition due to injury and are only expected to return to action next month.

Roma - Feyenoord Key Points

  1. Roma have won seven of their last ten home games in all competitions
  2. Roma won all three of their matches at home in the group stage
  3. Roma have not conceded a goal at home in this competition
  4. Feyenoord lost all three away games in Europe this season

Our Roma vs Feyenoord Prediction

While Feyenoord have been impressive this season, their record in away matches in European competition is far from inspiring. They lost all three matches on the road in the Champions League and have not tasted victory in continental competitions in over four seasons. Roma, on the other hand, have been excellent on their home patch and are yet to concede a goal at Stadio Olimpico in this competition. Our Roma vs Feyenoord prediction: Roma to qualify.
