Paraguay and Australia are set to battle it out in a Group D encounter in the third round aiming for crucial points to keep their qualification hopes to the knockout stages alive. This is the first competitive meeting between these two sides but Australia have avoided defeat in their last three international friendly games against Paraguay hence our prediction leaning towards the Socceroos avoiding defeat here in the draw no bet market.

Both teams head into this clash requiring a win to guarantee their spot in the Round of 32 at the 2026 World Cup. Having accumulated three points from their opening two matches, neither side can afford to leave anything to chance.

Paraguay and Australia have never met before in competitive action but this is the fourth time these two sides lock horns with the latter having the upper hand in the previous three international friendly games (W2, D1). Can the Socceroos claim a crucial victory at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara and book their spot in the World Cup knockout stages for the second consecutive time?

Paraguay - Australia: Form Analysis

Paraguay got off on the wrong foot in the opening round of the 2026 World Cup. Their first clash in Group D was against co-hosts USA, and they suffered a demoralizing 4-1 defeat.

Los Guaraníes didn't let that outcome derail their campaign, however, as they responded impressively in the second outing by edging Turkey 1-0 courtesy of Matías Galarza's goal in the opening two minutes.

Another three points here could see Paraguay reach the World Cup knockout stages for the first time since 2010.

Los Guaraníes have been waiting 16 years to feature in the World Cup knockout stages, is this the time?

Australia, meanwhile, are also on the verge of securing qualification to the knockout stages if they play their cards right. The possibility of qualifying as one of the eight best third-placed sides remains a realistic fallback option, but they will be determined to avoid relying on other results.

The Socceroos had a perfect start to the 2026 World Cup campaign as they beat Turkey 2-0 in the Group D opener. That outcome saw them put an end to their four-match losing streak in opening games.

Unfortunately, Tony Popovic's side weren't able to build on that momentum as they succumbed to a 2-0 defeat against the USA in the second round, who have already secured qualification to the knockout stages.

Paraguay & Australia Squad Analysis

Paraguay head coach Gustavo Alfaro is likely to make some minor changes to the starting XI that beat Turkey in the second round. Following an underwhelming performance from Isidro Pitta last time out, it's likely the Bragantino forward will sit this one out, making space for Antonio Sanabria.

Miguel Almiron won't take part in the final round fixture against Australia after receiving a straight red card for covering his mouth. Ramon Sosa could be a likely replacement for the suspended Atlanta United forward.

Julio Enciso has yet to score a goal in this tournament, but the Strasbourg midfielder has played an important part in the team's success, providing two crucial assists over two games, including Matías Galarza's match-winning goal against Turkey.

No goal, but Julio Enciso possesses a threat regardless!

Australia have no injury concerns or suspension news to report on heading into this crucial encounter. Head coach Tony Popovic won't be expected to make too many alterations to the side that faced the USA, with the Socceroos likely to stick with the core group that delivered victory over Turkey in their opening fixture.

Norwich forward Mohamed Toure is expected to spearhead the attack once again as he searches for his first World Cup goal while extending his international goal tally to three.

Our Paraguay vs Australia Prediction

Paraguay are the lowest-ranked team in Group D. However, they did show their resilience against Turkey, snatching three points and could be eyeing the same in this final round. It won't be an easy feat to achieve as they face an Australia side they've failed to defeat in three games.

Australia won two of those games, with their most recent win dating back to 2010. The Socceroos have the quality to avoid defeat in this clash and secure a favourable outcome. That being said, we expect Australia to avoid defeat in this one. Our Paraguay vs Australia prediction: Australia draw no bet.
