Both of these countries won their opening match in Group L of the 2026 World Cup. The Three Lions of England take on Ghana looking for a win that should see them end as group leaders. England were impressive in their win over Croatia and our prediction is they will win and lead at half and full time.
England were impressive at times in their opening win over Croatia. Four goals was a major plus for them but their coach will not have been totally happy with them conceding two goals and better sides may well make life very difficult for them. England now have Ghana and Panama to play in this group and it will be a major shock if they do not win both of these matches and finish top of Group L. Harry Kane scoring twice against Croatia was another plus for the English side.
Ghana won their opening group game but only thanks to a 95th minute goal. The Black Stars would have wanted a larger win over Panama as that could well determine if they qualify for the knockout stages. Games against England and Croatia are going to be difficult for them to earn further points in this group.

England - Ghana: Form Analysis

England's win over Croatia made it nine straight wins in this 2026 World Cup. They won all eight of their qualifying group matches to finish ten points clear of Albania. 22 goals were scored by the Three Lions and they didn't concede a single goal.
Sixty years on.
That record ended in the opening 4-2 win over Croatia in these finals. They twice took the lead only to be pegged back before forging ahead in the second half. The last World Cup saw them reach the quarter-finals. It's 60 years of hurt since they won the World Cup.
Only one of their last 11 games has been lost, a home defeat to Japan.
Ghana reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup in 2010. They were beaten in the group stages four years ago and failed to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations finals in 2023. Ghana finished top of their qualifying group, six points clear of Madagascar.
A 95th minute goal by Caleb Yirenkyi secured a 1-0 win over Panama. Their form coming into this tournament hasn't been great at all. They lost five successive matches before a draw with Wales in their final warm-up match.
This is their second match against England. The other was a 1-1 draw 15 years ago, again scoring a late goal.

England & Ghana Squad Analysis
England are hopeful that midfielder Declan Rice will be fit to play against Ghana. He came off in the second half against Croatia with a back problem. With a six-day gap between that game and this second group fixture, the Arsenal midfielder has plenty of time to regain full fitness.
No other injury problems have been reported by England. The Three Lions will want to build on their win over Croatia. It was a performance that was a bit more exciting than some England have put in reccently but they would love to go back to the days of keeping clean sheets.
Can Semenyo produce his Premier League form?
Ghana squeezed home against Panama and will need to improve if they are to beat England. They have several players who will be very familiar to their opponents. Antoine Semenyo had an impressive Premier League season with both Bournemouth and then Manchester City.
Up front, the Blackstars have Jordan Ayew who plays for Leicester City who are now in League One in England. He has played more games for Ghana than any other player. Caleb Yirenkyi scored the winner against Panama and that was his second goal in successive games.
