Brazil will take on Scotland next in Group C at the 2026 World Cup, seeking to enter the knockout rounds as group winners. The South American giants currently top the group, which also has Morocco and already eliminated Haiti, albeit on goal difference after two matches.

This will mark the 11th meeting between the two nations, and our prediction is for Brazil to win and extend their unbeaten run against Scotland. A win over the Scots will secure the Selecao’s place in the knockout rounds for an 11th consecutive World Cup tournament.

For the Tartan Army, a point here could most likely see them progress to the round of 32 as one of the eight best third-placed teams. Scotland currently occupy third place in this pool and cannot finish any lower after this final group match. This is the fifth time at a World Cup that these two nations find themselves as opponents. Brazil won twice, with their other World Cup meeting ending 0-0.

Scotland - Brazil: Form Analysis

Brazil have earned four points from their opening two fixtures at the tournament. After a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Morocco in round one, Carlo Ancelotti’s men turned on the style in the next game. Facing off with tournament debutants Haiti, Brazil looked more like the tournament favorites they are, securing a 3-0 victory.

A similar performance against Scotland could see them end up as group winners. Ranked sixth in the world, Brazil have never lost to Scotland in 10 meetings so far. They first met in a 1966 friendly, drawing 1-1. That marked the first of two matches they failed to beat Scotland in. In their most recent global stage meeting, Brazil won 2-1 at France 1998.

Brazil have beaten Scotland three times in four World Cup meetings.

Scotland currently have the second-best record of the teams sitting in third. Steve Clarke’s men had a strong start to the tournament as they edged a determined Haiti side 1-0. On matchday two, however, an early goal against Morocco proved to be the decider as they lost 1-0.

Scotland are back on the world stage after close to three decades in the cold. Their last World Cup appearance was back in 1998, where they finished bottom of a group that coincidentally also had Brazil and Morocco. Ranked 42nd in the world, Scotland have never progressed past the group stages of a World Cup.

Scotland & Brazil Squad Analysis

Vinicius Junior didn’t have a very fruitful season with his club, Real Madrid. The winger has, however, come to life at the World Cup. He has been involved in three of Brazil’s four goals at this competition, finding the net in both matches so far and also providing an assist against Haiti.

In a shift from round one, Ancelotti introduced Manchester United forward Matheus Cunha, dropping Igor Thiago from the starting team. The move paid off as Cunha benefited from Vinni’s deliveries on his way to a brace against Haiti. There is a strong chance that these two forwards will remain in the starting team. Raphinha picked an injury against Haiti and is out, but Neymar could play a part here, having trained with the team.

McGinn and McTominay have scored a combined 36 goals for Scotland.

John McGinn scored Scotland’s winner against Haiti in the opening game. The Aston Villa forward had a potent campaign with his club and is one of Scotland’s biggest offensive threats. He had a penalty shout ignored in their defeat to Morocco, which feels like a blip they will rise above.

Heading to another tough outing, McGinn will be out there to not only threaten Brazil but also provide leadership to his colleagues. Scott McTominay is another weapon for the European nation. The Napoli man also had a penalty claim denied in the Morocco loss.

Our Scotland vs Brazil Prediction

With this being the third game in the group for the two nations, both will be going all out seeking a win. Their progression to the knockout stages is highly dependent on the outcome here, so seeing the two coaches send out attacking sides will not be a surprise.

That could be the guarantee for goals in this game. Brazil come across as the superior opponent, and this assertion is well supported by their numbers in attack. As Scotland have also shown in recent times that they aren’t goal-shy, our prediction for Scotland v Brazil is for more than 2.5 goals.

Scotland vs Brazil Alternative Predictions

Brazil wins

Odds 1.39

In our second prediction, we are backing Brazil to win. Though Brazil no longer have their earlier fear factor, they will still be stronger here. They seemed to get into their groove on matchday two, and their good run against Scotland will be a factor as well.

The five-time world champions have never lost against Scotland and are unbeaten in five games, with four victories in this stretch. Scotland, on the other hand, lost last time out and have never won multiple matches at a World Cup tournament.
