La Vuelta - Stage 8 Predictions & Betting tips - International

 by Matthew Newman |

Stage 8 of La Vuelta is back to sprinters terrain again with just a Category 3 climb to be got over in the latter part of the stage. So far in the race, the man to beat on the quick stages has been Matthew Brennan.

With two stage wins already under his belt, Brennan arrives on Stage 8 as the man that they all have to beat when it comes to these flatter stages. The 21-year-old Brit is flying and a repeat of the class he showed on Stage 5 should make him very hard to beat.

His teammate Wout van Aert currently leads the way in the green points jersey, adding points with a third place finish on Friday. It is unlikely that the team would choose him over Brennan for the stage, however.

Runner-up on Stage 5 was Jordi Meeus who showed his best form since the start of June. He only has a single Grand Tour stage to his credit but that was into Paris in the 2023 Tour de France and there is no bigger sprinting stage in any race than that!

The big disappointment when it has come to the sprints so far has been Kaden Groves. This has been his most successful Grand Tour overall in his career but this year he has shown nothing. Despite that, he still can’t be completely discounted.

Our La Vuelta - Stage 8 - International prediction

Our La Vuelta Stage 8 prediction is Matthew Brennan wins. He has twice shown himself to be the pick of the sprinters so far in this race, and on a stage that should see a group finish into Xeraco, he can use the best lead out men going in this race in the shape of Wout van Aert and Christophe Laporte and get towed right where he needs to be to launch the telling move on the run for home.

Prediction :

Matthew Brennan wins
