France qualified for the 2026 Euro Championship as the defending champions, having claimed their fourth EHF Euro title in 2024 by beating Denmark 33-31 in extra-time in the final.

The French last faced this opponent in a friendly in January 2025, winning the match 37-28, which marked their sixth consecutive victory over the Czechs.
Meanwhile, the Czech Republic are returning to the Euro Championship for a fifth time in succession. They finished 15th in 2024, while their best was a sixth-placed finish in 2018.
The Czechs qualified for the competition through Phase 2 of the qualifiers by finishing second in their group behind Croatia with four wins and two losses in their six games.
