Daniil Medvedev is only one win away from reaching his fifth successive final. He takes on fellow Russian in the semi-final of the Miami Masters. Medvedev began this tournament ranked fifth but will only climb to fourth if winning this Miami Masters. In terms of ranking points earned this year, a win over Khachanov will see him go above Novak Djokovic into top spot in the live ATP Race. That's the result of his incredible run that has seen him win three titles and then lose to Carlos Alcaraz in the Indian Wells final. He's won four matches in this tournament (one by walkover) and hasn't dropped a set. Medvedev has now won 23 of his last 24 matches. Medvedev has had four previous meetings against Khachanov and has won three of them. All were on hard courts (two indoors, two outdoors) and the most recent was outdoors at the first Adelaide International tournament held in January. Medvedev won that 6-3 6-3 and hasn't lost to Khachanov since 2018 in an indoor hard court event in Moscow.

Karen Khachanov has been climbing back up the rankings this year. 2023 began with him in 20th place and he'd moved up to 16th at the start of this Miami Masters but is 11th in the live rankings. A win over Medvedev could see him get back into the top ten. He's already there in the live ATP Race filling ninth place at present and can get as high as sixth if winning this match. This year has seen the Russian reach the last eight of the Australian Open after two other quarter finals in Adelaide. He has missed some time due to injury but is back firing on all cylinders now. He's already beaten second seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas and has only dropped one set so far. That was back in the second round when losing the middle set against Tomas Martin Etcheverry. This looks like the end of his run though and we back Medvedev to get the win.
