Colchester United host runaway League Two leaders Walsall on Saturday in what is an important game for both teams. The U’s better form of late has moved them away from the drop zone, while the Saddlers remain seven points clear. What will our match prediction be for what looks like a closely fought contest?

Danny Cowley’s Colchester have been battling at the wrong end of the table for most of the season, but a run of three wins in their last four has moved them onto 37 points from 28 games and up to 13th in the table. Despite two defeats in their last three, Walsall remain top of the table with 59 points from 28 games.

The U’s come into this game unbeaten in their last four. A run started with a 1-0 away win over Bromley followed by a 0-0 draw away to Harrogate Town. Then followed a 1-0 home win over Morecambe before last weekend’s 3-1 win away to Tranmere Rovers. 

However, Matt Sadler’s Saddlers have not won in three league games. They lost both their last two away games without scoring; a 3-0 defeat at Bradford City followed by a 2-0 defeat away to Fleetwood Town. Last weekend, they did secure a point in a 2-2 home draw with Salford City. Prior to those three games, Walsall had won nine League Two games in a row.
