For the second year running, Ben Shelton will advance to the French Open third round courtesy of a walkover. The American will take on Italian Matteo Gigante, with the winner set to meet Damir Dzumhur or Carlos Alcaraz. Read on for our prediction of the match.

Shelton will be looking to make his mark at the French Open after reaching the third round for the second time. The American had a very easy route to this stage after Hugo Gaston, his supposed second-round opponent, withdrew.

Shelton must have welcomed it after battling in a five-set win against Lorenzo Sonego in the first round.

Gigante is set to play a third-round match on the tour for the first time this season. He is coming here on a high, though he remains the underdog against Shelton.

The Italian started his French Open campaign from the qualifying rounds. After securing the third-round spot, he will hope his giant-killing instincts continue into the next stage.

In the second round, Gigante beat Stefanos Tsitsipas in four sets, marking his fifth straight win. That took his tally for the season on clay to 12-5. He has only lost three times in the last 10 matches and after felling one top 20 player, he will be positive of taking another one down.
