Ben Shelton will be targeting his first win in his new status as a top 10 player when he meets Alex Bolt at Wimbledon. The two clash in the opening round, with the winner progressing to meet Rinky Hijikata or David Goffin. Below is our prediction for the match.

Apart from his improved ranking, nothing much has been positive for Shelton. He will head into this game off the back of four straight defeats, though the latest came in an exhibition match.

He lost in straight sets against Tomas Martin Etcheverry at Hurlingham. Shelton, however, rarely fails to reach Week 2 of the slams. He reached the fourth round at Roland Garros and semis at the Australian Open.

This will be a first meeting between these two. Bolt comes into this game having already been on the court for over five hours. He played through the qualifiers, beating Harold Mayot, Eliot Spizzirri, and most recently Martin Landaluce.

Bolt hasn’t played a lot on the main tour, and he might find this a challenging outing. He has only played one first-round match at the tour level, in ATP London.

His two Grand Slam appearances this season ended at the qualifying rounds at the Australian Open and the French Open. A 0-3 aggregate against top 10 players means this could be another painful Grand Slam showing.
