The Carabao Cup Third round sees a rare midlands contest as the Saddlers, Walsall, welcome Premier League Leicester City to the Banks’s Stadium in what should be a real test for Steve Cooper’s Foxes. Will our prediction favour the plucky home side underdogs, or will the power of the Premier League outfit win them the match?
Aptly-named Walsall boss Mat Sadler has overseen a fine start to the season for his team. Their sole defeats have come by a single goal away to Tranmere and MK Dons, and they have won their other five League Two games.
They’ve come through two closely fought contests in the previous rounds. Firstly, they defeated Exeter City 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw. They then faced Huddersfield Town and emerged with a 3-2 win against their League One opponents in the Second round of this tournament.
They come into this game after three consecutive wins, including a 2-0 win away to Salford City at the weekend.
Leicester City cruised into the Third round of the Carabao Cup by beating Tranmere 4-0 at the King Power Stadium. That remains the Foxes' sole win this season as they have drawn three and lost two of their Premier League fixtures.
They are unbeaten in two, drawing 2-2 away to Crystal Palace, and then at the weekend, earned a 1-1 draw against Everton at home.
Despite the difference in form between the two teams so far this season, Leicester’s much higher-quality squad means that they will start this game as strong favourites.
