The ultimate game at the 2025 Canadian Open is set; the outstanding wildcard Victoria Mboko will be up against a resurgent Naomi Osaka. This title match will mark the first meeting between the two players. We have a prediction below.
The 18-year-old Mboko defeated ninth seed Elena Rybakina in three sets and is gunning for a first-ever WTA title. Her list of casualties here includes three Grand Slam winners, two of which were seeded players.
All that, and yet she’s on her debut here. Mboko is now 84th in the live rankings, a record high, and has compiled a 52-9 run. Can the home favorite shock Osaka in her first tour-level final? Time will tell.
Osaka will contest the title on her return here after six years. She overcame Clara Tauson 2-0 in the semi-final and has now compiled a 27-11 record.
In her last appearance here, the Japanese reached the quarters. This will pass as part of the former world No. 1’s highlight of the season for now, as she plays in her second final at the tour level.
In the first, she had to retire at Auckland when leading Tauson. A four-time Grand Slam winner, Osaka will be wary of Mboko’s threat, but her Rogers Cup history stands out. After her semi-final win, she has a 12-4 record here and is 51st in the live rank.
