Alexander Zverev, the second seed at this year’s Australian Open, will face off with 12th seed Tommy Paul next. They will battle in the quarter-finals with the winner of their first career matchup at a major playing Carlos Alcaraz or Novak Djokovic next. Below is our prediction for this match.

Tommy Paul is seeking to progress to the semi-finals in Melbourne for the second time in three years. Given he has had the upper hand against Zverev in their previous duels, the American will be confident of a win.

Paul has won previous matchups with Zverev. Both have been on hardcourts with the most recent taking place at Indian Wells three years ago.

Paul, who has won six of seven matches this season, defeated Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in straight sets in the fourth round. He has moved up to ninth in the live ranking, a new career high.

Alexander Zverev has qualified for the last eight in Melbourne for the fourth time now. Last season he made it to the semi-finals for the second time and will hope to finally get over the hump and win it all.

The German, who is unbeaten through his opening six matches of the season, defeated 14th seed Ugo Humbert in the last round. He won in four sets after he relinquished the second set.

It was his first dropped set of the tournament and second of the season.

Zverev will lose his world number two ranking if world number three Carlos Alcaraz has a better finish than him in Melbourne.
