Golden Lions host Airlink Pumas in Round 2 of the 2026 Currie Cup at Ellis Park Stadium on Saturday. They have won each of their last four encounters against Airlink Pumas, mostly by blowout margins, making us favour a comfortable victory for the home side.
Likhona Finca’s hat-trick of tries couldn't save Golden Lions as they fell 29–27 to the Cheetahs in a closely contested 2026 Currie Cup opener on Sunday in Bloemfontein. The Cheetahs had Ramon Uys, Victor Sekekete, Marko Janse van Rensburg and Cohen Jasper all score tries with Jaco van der Walt adding nine points from the tee to see off the Lions.
The Mzwakhe Nkosi-led team will aim to bounce back from that setback in Bloemfontein returning to Ellis Park Stadium for their first home fixture of the campaign. Their only defeat at Ellis Park Stadium came in the Currie Cup final against Griquas last season, with all prior five fixtures before that final ending in blowout victories.
Airlink Pumas failed to overturn a 14-point first-half deficit despite a strong second-half performance as they fell 26-24 at home to Sharks XV in the opening game. That result means the 2022 champions have lost four of their last five Currie Cup matches, dating back to last season. All four of their recent encounters with Golden Lions have ended in defeats, three of which by heavy margins.
