Fourth-place Lions will look to continue on winning ways when they welcome bottom-place Blue Bulls to Ellis Park Stadium in Round 3 of the 2026 Currie Cup. Lions have won their previous two Currie Cup meetings with Blue Bulls by blowout margins and have been difficult opponents to play at Ellis Park Stadium since last season, hence our prediction backing the hosts to win by a convincing margin.

Lions bounced back in style by demolishing Airlink Pumas 52–29 last week after a narrow two-point defeat away to Cheetahs in the opening round. Notably, last week's victory not only returned the 11-time Currie Cup champions to winning ways but also continued their tradition of producing dominant displays at Ellis Park.

They have now racked up an impressive six wins across their last seven Currie Cup home games, each of those victories coming by at least 21 points. Overall, Mzwakhe Nkosi’s side have won four of their last six Currie Cup outings dating back to last season, including their last two meetings with Blue Bulls.

Meanwhile, Blue Bulls are still searching for their first win in the competition after two games. They kicked off their campaign with a 14-point defeat to Boland Kavaliers and then collapsed to a heavy 56–26 defeat to defending champions Suzuki Griquas last week. 

The nine-time Currie Cup champions have now suffered defeat in six of their last seven Currie Cup games since last season, five of which by heavy margins.
