Jannik Sinner hopes that 13 won't be unlucky for him at Indian Wells. The third seed has won all 12 of his matches this year and now takes on unseeded Thanasi Kokkinakis in round two at Indian Wells. The seeded player who could be faced in round three of this outdoor hard court Masters tournament is 25th seed Jan-Lennard Struff. Sinner has only played two tournaments this year and won them both. He won the Australian Open with wins over players such as Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev. Then after a much-deserved break he won the indoor tournament held in Rotterdam. He's continued the good form shown at the end of 2023 when reaching the title decider at the ATP Tour Finals and winning the Davis Cup with Italy. Only Djokovic has beaten him in his last 20 singles matches.

Thanasi Kokkinakis was ranked 99th at the start of this tournament, 96 places below Sinner. The Australian didn't start the year well with both of his first two matches being lost. He made it to the second round of the Australian Open but would have liked to do much better in his home country. Kokkinakis then failed to qualify for the hard court Delray Beach Open but found some form when getting to the last eight in Los Cabos. He didn't build on that though and had to retire in his first qualifying round match in Acapulco. The first round of this tournament saw him get a straight sets win over Marcos Giron. We go for Sinner to win in straight sets.
