Third seed Taylor Fritz will on Tuesday square off against the unseeded Max Purcell at the Swiss Indoors tournament. The winner of this first-round duel will then proceed to play either Stan Wawrinka or Alexander Shevchenko. Taylor Fritz has started the week up one place to ninth in the ATP world rankings. The American has had a good couple of weeks and arrives here having won seven of his last 10 matches. He however was shockingly defeated in his last match by a player ranked 200 places below him. This was in the second round in Tokyo where he lost in three sets to then-world number 215 Shintaro Mochizuki. He will however not sleep with this as he has dominated this season. Fritz is having his best-ever season and has won 50 matches for the first time in his career. He has compiled a 52-22 record and has won three of four matches on indoor hard courts.

Max Purcell has also recorded 50 wins for the first time in his career. The Australian, who has alternated between the challenger and tour circuits, has compiled a 51-25 record. Though the majority of his wins, 45, have come on hard courts, he has managed a 4-2 record on indoor hard courts. The 25-year-old has however hit a dip in form and has won only one of his last eight matches. He was defeated in Tokyo in his last match to suffer his third defeat on the trot. Purcell is currently down to 41st place in the live ranking and has also found the going tough against top-10-ranked players. He has played three top 10 players so far this season and has lost twice.
