The Round of 16 in the Miami Open is set to get going this week, and we’re preparing for a top-10 clash with Holger Rune taking on Taylor Fritz for the first time in their careers. Ranked 8th in the world, Rune has had an average season by his standards, reaching two semi-finals this year, which came in Montpellier and Acapulco last month. Rune’s last tournament appearance was at Indian Wells, where he bowed out unexpectedly in the second round against 87th seed Stan Wawrinka. The Dane has looked better so far here in Miami and has not dropped a set in two matches. The first was against Marto Fucsovics (6-3, 7-5) followed by a win over Diego Schwartzman in the last round (6-4, 6-2). Rune is now 12-6 for the year and will know that he is going to be tested to his limit in this one against a very strong opponent. 

Meanwhile, Taylor Fritz comes into this match playing some of the best tennis of his career. We’ve become accustomed to seeing the American appear in the latter stages of the tournaments that he’s participated in, reaching at least the quarter-finals of each of his last four tournaments. Fritz has already notched up one title win this year, which came at Delray Beach, where he beat an in-form Frances Tiafoe in straight sets (6-3, 6-4). He went on to a semi-final two weeks later in Acapulco and then a quarter-final against Jannik Sinner earlier this month at Indian Wells. Fritz has also not dropped a set yet this tournament, beating Emilio Nava (6-4, 6-1) in the tournament opener and Denis Shapovalov (6-4, 6-4) in the last round. Fritz is now 19-5 for the season and will be eyeing up another quarter-final berth with a win in this one.
