Iceland are top of Men’s European Handball Championships Main Round Group II. They face bottom-placed Switzerland in their penultimate group fixture. Can the Swiss stay in these championships? Time for our match prediction.
In their last group match, Iceland caused a surprise when they beat Sweden. They were on fire in the first half and went into the break with a six-goal lead, eventually winning by eight. Iceland won Group F in the Preliminary Round, winning all three of their matches.
Their unbeaten run came to an end in their opening Main Round group match. They lost by a single goal to Croatia. After this match, they play Slovenia (currently third) in their final fixture with the top two going into the semi-finals.
Switzerland are struggling to make it into the last four. They finished second in Preliminary Round Group D and didn’t carry any points into the Main Round. So far in this group, they have drawn with Hungary (losing a six-goal lead) and then lost 28-24 to Croatia on Sunday.
With just one point, they need to win this game to retain any qualification chances. Their final group fixture sees them take on second-placed Sweden. We tip Iceland to win on a -3.5 handicap.
