A fascinating Western Conference matchup early on Saturday morning as the 28-23-11 Seattle Kraken welcome the 39-17-5 Winnipeg Jets. It has been a disappointing season for the Kraken. They made the playoffs in 2023, knocking out the defending champion Colorado Avalanche. This is the first of a five-game home stand and the second part of a back-to-back against the Jets who they beat 4-3 last time out. The Kraken went 3-2-1 in six home games recently so will be hoping to get this one off to the perfect start. Currently six points off a wildcard spot, they are going to have to start to take advantage of the home fixtures on their schedule.
The Jets have won 21 of 31 at home this season but were unable to cope with the Kraken who came from behind in the third period to pick up the win. They are 4-6 on the road in their last 10 but a pair of those wins came over the Chicago Blackhawks and Buffalo Sabres so they are not the strongest of form guides. The Jets are still the number one defence in the NHL on goals conceded but 3.1 per game in their last 10 compared to 2.29 in their prior 51 suggests that they are not quite at the peak of their powers at present. They have managed to find the net more themselves which has been some compensation with Nino Niederreiter scoring in three straight games.
