Pool A has been turned upsidedown after hosts Japan beat Ireland on Saturday. What had looked a pool that would be fought out between Ireland and Scotland is now a three-way battle. With Scotland's final game being against the Japanese, they have the task of winning their games against Samoa and Russia before that showdown. They lost their opening game 27-3 to Ireland but the country ranked seventh in the world should get their first win against Samoa who are 16th in the world. They have played the Samoans on 11 previous occasions, winning nine, losing one and drawing the other. Scotland won't just be wanting to win this match, earning a bonus point for scoring four tries is another key target. Japan already have 10 points from two games and Ireland two, a straightforward win without a bonus point would still leave Scotland outside the top two. Scotland insist that getting the win under their belt is their first aim as they take on a Samoa team that are also ahead of them after a 34-9 win over Russia. Samoa last got out of their pool in 1995 and haven't beaten a first-tier nation since a win over Italy in 2014.
