After an away loss to Italy last weekend, life does not get any easier for Scotland. They are fourth in the Six Nations table after the first set of games and this Saturday are home to leaders England. Can the Thistles beat England? Read our match prediction below.
Scotland did at least earn a bonus point in Italy as they were only beaten by three points in Rome. Even so, the 18-15 defeat was a hugely disappointing result for the Scottish side who finished fourth in the 2025 Six Nations.
England beat Wales 48-7 in their opening Six Nations fixture last weekend. Everything seems to be building towards a title decider in Paris for England and another win this weekend is vital for them with France fully expected to beat Wales. As you will read in the form section of this preview, Scotland have had some good recent results against the Auld Enemy but lost to England at Twickenham last season. England wlll be going all out to retain the Calcutta Cup this weekend.

Scotland - England: Form Analysis
Scotland are already playing catch-up after last weekend's opening loss away in Italy. A second loss this weekend would end any faint hopes the Thistles have of challenging for the Six Nations title this year.
2025 saw Scotland lose at Twickenham by just a single point. That ended a run of four successive wins over England, all achieved by a winning margin of under ten points. The last seven matches between these two countries have seen a combined winning margin of only 31 points.
Tough time for Scotland.
Scotland have only beaten Wales in their last five matches in the Six Nations. Only one of their last four internationals has been won. That was a home victory over Fiji but they had lost to New Zealand and Argentina before the defeat by Italy.
England beat Wales by a 41-point winning margin last weekend. They won't quite be expecting a St Valentine's Day massacre this weekend but the Red Roses are in far better form than their opponents.
12 consecutive wins have been recorded by England since losing to Ireland in last year's Six Nations. That includes beating New Zealand, France, Argentina and Australia. They will be fully confident of returning home with another win.

Scotland & England Squad Analysis
Scotland only has a couple of home games in this year's Six Nations. The other is against France so after losing last weekend, they really need a victory at home to England. They won't need much geeing up to put on a better display against the Auld Enemy as they try to regain the Calcutta Cup. It may be St Valentine's Day on Saturday but there's no love lost between these two countries.
It's also a special match for their coach Gregor Townsend. This is 100th match in charge of Scotland but they are struggling for form.
Four changes have been made to the starting line-up beaten in Rome. Out go Grant Gilchrist, Matt Ferguson, Pierre Schoeman and Ewan Ashman. The same back line will be fielded on Saturday but Gregor Brown, Jamie Ritchie, Nathan McBeth and George Turner come into the team.
Duhan van der Merwe is their record try scorer but he's again been left out of the Scottish squad. Getting off to a good start is going to be vital for Scotland. Then again, they led Argentina by 14 points at half-time in November and still ended up losing by nine.
Itoje returns as England captain.
Captain Maro Itoje is back for England after being on the bench last weekend after a family bereavement. He's one of two changes to the team that beat Wales with Luke Cowan-Dickie coming in at hooker. Jamie George was captain last weekend but is only a replacement in Edinburgh.
England know this is going to be a tough game and they are full of respect for Scotland, particularly their backline. They are full of confidence though as they bid to make it 13 wins in a row witd our players with a win on Saturday.

Our Scotland vs England Prediction
England head to Edinburgh looking to make it 13 wins in a row. They have been in dominant form since losing to Ireland in last season's Six Nations. England were dominant in the Autumn Internationals and got their 2026 Six Nations campaign off to a great start with a 48-7 win over Wales.
Scotland are not in great form at present. Two of their home Autumn Internationals were lost, including losing a good lead against Argentina. In a rain-soaked Rome last weekend, they were beaten 18-15 by Italy. Our Scotland v England prediction is England wins on a -5.5 handicap.
