San Lorenzo and Atletico Mineiro will get their Copa Libertadores Round of 16 tie underway in the first leg at Estadio Pedro Bidegain on Wednesday morning. The winner of this round will move on to face either Gremio or Fluminense in the quarter-final. Let’s get into the match prediction.
San Lorenzo booked their spot in the Round of 16 in this competition by finishing second in their group, holding off Independiente del Valle by a single point thanks to a final-day draw against Palmeiras.
Since then, though, things have not gone well for the Argentine outfit, as they bowed out of the Copa Argentina earlier this month and enter this match winless in their last four in all competitions (W0 D2 L2).
However, El Ciclon are unbeaten at home in the Copa Libertadores, winning two and drawing one of their three group-stage matches. They have also only failed to find the net in one of their last five games on home soil.
Meanwhile, Atletico Mineiro have failed to hit the heights they would have hoped for in their domestic league this season, currently in eighth place with 29 points after finishing third last term.
However, Galo’s Copa Libertadores form has been much better, as they claimed top spot in their group with five wins and one loss in their six matches. The sole defeat was against Penarol 2-0 on the road.
These two sides last met in 2018 in the Copa Sudamerica group stage and San Lorenzo won at this venue before playing out a goalless draw at Estadio Raimundo Sampaio.
