Our free Women’s Champions League prediction for the 2023 - 2024 season: who to bet on?

Women’s Champions League trophy

The 2023-2024 edition of the Women's Champions League will see the top female club teams in Europe trying to win the title. The past eight seasons have been dominated by two clubs: Lyon and Barcelona. The French giants have lifted the trophy on six occasions while Barcelona have claimed the other two, including the prior season's. The Catalan side has now won the trophy twice in the past three seasons and has played in four of the last five finals, highlighting their status as the team to beat.

Can the stranglehold these two clubs have on the Women’s Champions League be broken? With the way the draw has played out, a Barcelona vs Lyon final looks to be on the cards. For our money, we believe it will be Barcelona that retains the title and captures their third UWCL trophy in the last four years!

Women’s Champions League: Odds to win the trophy

Bookmakers are offering odds on who they believe will win the 2023-24 Women’s Champions League ahead of the semi-final. Which of them will you be taking when placing your bets?

  • Lyon - 3.75
  • Chelsea - 9.00

Which prediction on who will be the top goal scorer in the Women’s Champions League?

Barcelona's Salma Paralluelo

There are some great strikers playing in the 2023-24 Women’s Champions League. From Aitana Bonmati (Barcelona) to Sam Kerr (Chelsea) and Valentina Giacinti (Roma) to Kadidiatou Diani (Lyon), we can expect some great goals to be scored over the coming months. In her first season with Lyon after making the switch from Paris, Kadidiatou Diani is having a fantastic UWCL campaign with seven goals in eight matches. However, our money will be on Barcelona's 20-year-old phenom Salma Paralluelo to be crowned top scorer in this competition. The World Cup winner has 15 goals in 18 La Liga F matches as well as six goals in eight UWCL appearances which sees her trailing first-place Diani by just one. Across all competitions this season, Paralluelo has struck for 28 goals in 30 outings, a fantastic return for the Barcelona #7. It's likely that Paralluelo will get the maximum possible pitch time with her Blaugrana team being heavy favorites to win this competition. Our 2023-24 UWCL top scorer prediction is Salma Paralluelo!

Which prediction on who will reach the Women’s Champions League final?

Grace Geyoro of PSG

You can also place bets on who will reach the final of the Women’s Champions League. In the past eight finals, only five different clubs have taken part. It’s not always Barcelona v Lyon, that’s only happened twice. Wolfsburg, Chelsea and PSG have also made the final, so who might get to Bilbao next May?

Chelsea have dominated the English Women’s Super League in recent years. They reached the final of this competition in 2021 and may well make a bold bid again this season. PSG have twice reached the final but like their male counterparts are yet to win a Champions League title. With the English side receiving a tough draw in the form of the reigning champions and an all-French affair in the other semi-final, it's looking very likely that we see a colossal Barcelona vs Lyon final!

Odds to reach the final

  • Barcelona - 1.16
  • Lyon - 1.33
  • PSG - 3.25
  • Chelsea - 4.50

Women's Champions League groups

Group A: Barcelona, Eintracht Frankfurt, Benfica, Rosengard

Alexia Putellas of Barcelona

It’s nearly impossible to bet against Barcelona winning this group. They are by far the strongest side with top players such as Lucy Bronze and several members of the Women’s World Cup winning Spanish team. Second place should go to Eintracht Frankfurt who comfortably beat Sparta Prague 8-0 on aggregate to win the group stages. Both Benfica and Rosengard (who conceded 20 goals in last season’s group) will find it difficult to cope with Barcelona and Frankfurt.

Group B: Lyon, St Polten, Slavia Prague, Brann

Eugenie Le Sommer of Lyon

Lyon will have few problems finishing top of Group B. The French club has won the Women’s Champions League a record eight times.  Slavia Prague are our tips to take second spot, just ahead of St Polten and Brann.

Group C: Bayern Munich, PSG, Roma, Ajax

Lea Schuller of Bayern Munich

This is a far more competitive group than the first two we’ve looked at. Bayern Munich regularly reach the last eight and have been in two semi-finals in the past five seasons. PSG beat Manchester United to get into the group stages and should qualify. Roma lost to Barcelona in last season’s quarter finals but are likely to finish third with Ajax struggling in fourth.

Group D: Chelsea, Real Madrid, BK Hacken, Paris FC

Sam Kerr of Chelsea

Here’s another group that will be difficult to qualify from. Chelsea are our tip to win it but it’s going to be close between them, Real Madrid and the improving Paris FC who have already beaten Arsenal in the early rounds. Real can just edge out Paris with Hacken trailing in fourth.

Beginner sports bettors - how does the Women’s Champions League work?

The Women’s Champions League is the top European competition in female football. It sees the top teams in Europe go head-to-head after qualifying for the competition via their domestic leagues.

The early stages of the Women’s Champions League are different from that in the men’s equivalent. There aren’t so many teams taking part and even those who finish second and third in top domestic leagues around Europe don’t automatically go into the group stages

It’s a controversial format and opposition to it has intensified with top clubs such as Manchester United, Wolfsburg and Arsenal already being knocked out. The format may well change in the future.

The group stage is simple: four groups of four teams are drawn, and the teams in each group play each other twice in home and away matches. At the end of the six matches in the group phase, the top two teams qualify for the quarter finals. Unlike in the men’s Champions League there’s no other competition to be moved into. Finish third and fourth and your European season is over.

We now reach the knockout stage where the quarter and semi-finals are both played over two legs. The two remaining sides then meet in the final which this season is being played at San Mames in Bilbao.

  • 4 groups of four teams (16 clubs in total) play each other home and away from 14 November to 31 January 2024.
  • The top 2 teams in each group qualify for the last eight.
  • The 3rd and 4th placed teams in a group are eliminated.
  • Two-legged quarter finals played on 19/20 and 27/28 March, 2024
  • Two-legged semi finals take place played on 20/21 and 27/28, 2024
  • Final to be played between May 24 and 26 in Bilbao.

Our tips for correctly predicting matches and betting on the Women’s Champions League

Women’s Champions League predictions

To make reliable Women’s Champions League predictions, it's vital to pay attention to certain key factors. You can’t just bet on the team with the shortest odds or who you support. Research is extremely important, it just has to be carried out.  Here are our top tips to consider before placing a bet on the Women’s Champions League:

  • Analyse the form of the Women’s Champions League teams
  • Keep an eye on the team news for the Women’s Champions League games.
  • Take into account how important the match is.
  • Look at  the history of meetings between the two opposing teams
  • Compare Women’s Champions League odds before placing your bets

By taking each of these factors into account when analysing a Women’s Champions League match, you'll be able to form an accurate opinion on the outcome. Read on to find out more about each of these tips!

Analyse the form of Women’s Champions League teams

Signe Bruun of Real Madrid

The most important stage in your study of a Women’s Champions League match is to analyse the form of the teams, and especially that of the key players taking part. Even top teams can go through a bad patch of form. Make sure that you are fully aware of how clubs have been performing both in their domestic league and in this competition. If a side such as Eintracht Frankfurt has been struggling for form, you may decide not to bet on them or reduce your intended stake.

Also look at how a club has been playing at home and away. Even some top teams aren’t at their best on their travels or sometimes struggle for results on home soil. Also look at the quality of the teams that clubs have been playing against. For sides such as Rosengard and Brann, playing top opposition in the Women’s Champions League is a big step up in class.

Keep an eye on the team news for the Women’s Champions League games.

In the same vein, keeping an eye on injured and suspended players will also be important before making a prediction and then placing a bet on a Women’s Champions League match. For example, what if Barcelona are without Caroline Hansen or Paris FC are missing Gaetane Thiney. Their absence will cause their team a problem and it may be you decide not to bet on them or perhaps reduce how much you wish to wager. It’s so frustrating if you back a team and then find out important players aren’t going to be playing. Don’t make this mistake.

Take into account how important the match is

Laura Freigang of Eintracht Frankfurt

When it comes to the group stages, not every game will be as important as other fixtures. It’s likely that for example Barcelona and Lyon will clinch qualification with a game or even two to spare. If that is the situation, they may well decide to rest players for the remaining fixtures. On the flip side, teams already eliminated may also decide not to play a full-strength line-up. Remember, unlike in other European competitions, third place in the group doesn’t take you into another tournament, so more games of lesser importance are likely.

The same applies to the knockout phase. If a team has beaten its opponent 4-0 in the first leg, they may decide to field a slightly weakened line-up in the return game. Whatever the stage of the competition, you should never make the mistake of ignoring the importance of a Women’s Champions League match. Taking this factor into account, there are both good moves to be made, but also pitfalls to be avoided.

Look at the history of meetings between the two opposing teams

To improve your analysis of a Women’s Champions League match, we advise you not to miss out on the latest head-to-head meetings between the clubs. Certain teams are particularly effective against particular opponents, and can get the better of them even if they have a similar level of play on paper. In a sport like football, psychological impact is important, and a team that has lost all its head-to-heads to another team will find it difficult to perform against them in future matches.

Therefore, pay attention to past results but also look at how the clubs have progressed since those previous games. One side may be slipping back and the other making strides forward.

Compare Women’s Champions League odds before placing your bets

Finally, of course, you need to compare the Women’s Champions League odds before placing your bets on the competition. As you know, sports betting sites generally offer different odds for similar bets. To ensure you get the best potential winnings, you'll need to sign up with a number of bookmakers in order to take advantage of the best odds on the bet of your choice.

On an average Women’s Champions League match, for example, Bwin might offer odds of 1.9 on Roma beating Paris FC at home. However, at bet365, the odds of a Roma victory are 1.95. It is therefore advisable to place your bet with bet365.  Over the long term, your winnings on the competition can be higher if placing bets at the best odds available, so don't underestimate these comparisons and register with as many online bookmakers as possible. You’ll also receive some good welcome bonuses.

By following these steps and taking into account the information in the text, you will be able to make more informed predictions and optimise your chances of success in Women’s Champions League matches.

Women’s Champions League: statistics you need to know

Champions League statistics - Football

To increase your chances of success with your 2023-2024 Women’s Champions League predictions, it's essential to take into account the key statistics and figures for the tournament. Here are the most important facts from the last edition from the group stages onwards.

  • Home wins: 41%
  • Draws: 19.7%
  • Away wins: 39.3%
  • Average goals: 3.45 per game
  • +1.5 goals : 75.4%
  • -1.5 goals :  24.6%
  • +2.5 goals : 54%
  • -2.5 goals : 46%
  • +3.5 goals : 44.2%
  • -3.5 goals :  55.8%
  • "Both teams score : yes" : 41%

If you take a look at these statistics, you'll see that there is a high average number of goals. This is slightly inflated by the big wins that top teams have over lesser ones in the group stages. In the 48 group games, the average number of goals per game was 3.48 but in the knockout stages with more evenly matched games, it fell to 2.61.

The stat for both teams scoring isn’t quite as high as expected, again caused by weaker teams scoring fewer goals. In the group stages, only 39.6% of games saw both teams get on the scoresheet. In the knockout games this figure rose to 46.1%.

Handicap betting in some group games is a good idea. Don't forget to keep all these figures in mind to improve the quality of your bets on the 2023-2024 Women’s Champions League.
