Two of the three sides that won titles in Europe last season are set to meet for the second time this season. PSG, the current European champions, will host Europa League winners Tottenham Hotspur in the fifth round of the Champions League. Heading into the Wednesday encounter, Spurs are just a point outside the top eight, while PSG are fifth. Read on for our prediction of the match.
PSG’s title defence hit stormy waters in their last outing as they suffered a 2-1 home defeat to Bayern Munich. While PSG take to this game with a strong run against English teams, Spurs are unbeaten against French teams in their last three UCL games. They are also unbeaten in their last eight group/league stages, where they won four and drew as many.
There’s a lot for Spurs to prove in this game. Their European campaign is based on a solid run defensively; in their four matches, they kept three clean sheets.
They will need such a run, as PSG have been scoring freely. Spurs are coming from a crushing defeat to Arsenal in the north London derby, falling 4-1, and will thus be desperate to bounce back.
