With very little to separate them from before the international break, Oxford and Stoke would be keen to get some momentum as action resumes in the 2024-25 Championship campaign. This match at the Kassam Stadium in Oxford on Saturday comes with our prediction of witnessing goals from both teams.

Oxford were ninth with six points, while Stoke were 11th with the same number of points but an inferior goal difference going into the break. Oxford’s two wins are from matchdays one and four, with the two defeats sandwiched between. They defeated Preston 3-1 in the last match, a welcome win after losing to Coventry and Blackburn in consecutive games.

These teams haven’t met in any competition since 2001, so history doesn’t provide many pointers. Oxford will feel they have a slight edge, especially as both their wins in this league campaign have come at home. Stoke went into the break with some momentum behind their back, winning 5-0 against Middlesbrough and 1-0 against Plymouth.

Although the win against Middlesbrough was in the EFL Cup, there’s enough evidence to suggest the Potters are slowly getting into the groove. Interestingly, like their hosts, Stoke also have seen their wins come on matchdays one and four.

Both their wins have come by a slender 1-0 scoreline, so any win for the visitors could be a tight affair. Regardless, they have scored in all but one of their four league matches this season and should be confident of getting on the scoresheet here too.
