Defending champion Daniil Medvedev takes on the 22nd seed Nicolas Jarry in the Miami Open quarter finals. For the winner there's a semi-final against either second seed Jannik Sinner or unseeded Tomas Machac. Medvedev is the third seed in this outdoor hard court Masters 1000 tournament. He's only played four tournaments in 2024 but has reached at least the quarter final in all of them. He's got to two finals this year and a semi-final and only Jannik Sinner has earned more ranking points than him this year. The world number four can't climb any higher in the rankings even if he were to retain his title. So far in Miami. he's had wins over Marton Fucsovics, 30th seed Cameron Norrie and in the last 16, unseeded Dominik Koepfer. 

To make it into the last four, Nicolas Jarry must beat Daniil Medvedev for the first time. There's only been one previous meeting and that was won by Medvedev in straight sets but it was played on clay. The Chilean was ranked 23rd when this tournament got underway. His run to the last eight has taken him up one place in the live list and beating Medvedev would see him rise to 20th. This is the first time he's played in Miami since 2019 and had never previously got past the second round. It's gone much better for him this year though but he needed three sets to get past Jack Draper and Thiago Seyboth Wild. He caused a shock in round four when beating seventh seed Casper Ruud in straight sets. This is tougher though and we tip Medvedev to win in straight sets.
