Newcastle Falcons go into their final European Rugby Challenge Cup match with no qualification hopes. This weekend sees them host Montpellier who are top of pool 2 and already in the knockout stages. Here’s our match prediction.
The English Premiership side are bottom of the pool without a single point to their name. They have lost at Pau and Ospreys and been beaten at home by Dragons.
The Falcons are also bottom of the English Premiership, though they have at least won two matches so far after going winless last season. Each of their last six matches has ended in defeat.
Montpellier top the pool with 14 points, four ahead of Ospreys. A home draw in the last 16 has already been confirmed for the Top 14 side. Montpellier have won all three of their pool games including an away win at Dragons.
They are seventh in Top 14 with seven wins and the same number of defeats. Their last three league matches have all been won and they’ve won six in a row in all competitions since a loss at Top 14 leaders Bordeaux Begles.
Only two of their seven away league games have been won this season. That’s still the third best record in Top 14.
