Newcastle got back to winning ways last time out with a 3-1 success away to struggling Burnley. Though a perfect way to end 2025, it was only their third win in the last eight games across all competitions. Eddie Howe’s men seem to have plateaued this season, failing to win more consistently.
The Magpies haven’t won consecutive games since posting three back in October. In the league, they have won seven of 19 fixtures and lost a similar number. Despite this topsy-turvy run, they remain in European contention and sit four points from the top five. Newcastle haven’t lost in 10 straight fixtures at St. James’ Park, winning eight.
Newcastle have only lost to Liverpool, Barcelona, and Arsenal at home this season.
Though they sit above Newcastle coming into this fixture, Palace have fared much worse than their opponents in recent outings. Oliver Glasner’s men are no longer the team that started the season by going unbeaten in their opening 11 fixtures.
Palace haven’t won any of their last six games, losing four times. This form has seen them drop out of the European places and now sit three points below the top six. The Eagles, who have also won seven of 19 games, drew 1-1 at home against Fulham last time out to end a three-game skid.

Dan Burn, Sven Botman, and Tino Livramento remain out injured for Newcastle. There is some reprieve, though, for the hosts, as Kieran Trippier is expected to return this weekend after more than a month out. Goals have dried up for Nick Woltemade, and as a result, he was dropped against Burnley.
His replacement, Yoane Wissa, scored his first league goal for Newcastle and is expected to continue in attack. Joelinton and Bruno Guimarães were also on target last time out, and the two have now netted a combined 10 goals for the Magpies.
Palace skipper Marc Guehi is said to be angling for an away move in January.
Palace’s slump can be put down to the squad being heavily depleted. The visitors could be without up to 10 players for this trip due to injuries and international obligations. Ismaila Sarr is away at the AFCON, and his absence has been felt with Palace struggling with scoring.
Daichi Kamada, Daniel Munoz, and Cheick Doucoure have all missed game time recently. The Eagles do have Jean-Phillipe Mateta available, though. The forward is Palace’s leading scorer and was on target last time out, ending a seven-game scoring duck. Having him back amongst the goals is a huge boost for a team out of form.
