Second seed Nicolas Jarry will begin his campaign in Adelaide with a second-round showdown with the unseeded Matteo Arnaldi. The winner will then progress to the quarterfinals where a showdown with either Jiri Lehecka or Dusan Lajovic will await. Matteo Arnaldi won his first-round battle with Bernabe Zapata Miralles in straight sets. It was his third win in four outings this year. Arnaldi, who is making his Adelaide debut, is coming off a strong showing in Brisbane. The Italian made his season debut in Brisbane and maneuvered his way to the quarterfinals. He is currently ranked 41st in the ATP.
Nicolas Jarry defeated Arnaldi the first and only time they met. This was three months ago in Beijing. He won in three sets on his way to the quarterfinals. He will hope for another similar outcome as he seeks to maintain his unbeaten start to the year. Jarry has won the two matches he has played this season which all took place at the United Cup. The Chilean, who had a superb 2023 campaign, is also making his Adelaide debut. Last year he won 43 matches and registered two tour titles as well as five quarter-final appearances. This form allowed him to break into the ATP top 20 for the first time. He is currently ranked 18th in the world.
