Liverpool switch their attention to the FA Cup, where they will look to maintain their current unbeaten run when hosting League One side Barnsley. Read on to find our prediction for this match.
This is the first time in 18 years that these two teams are going head-to-head. Barnsley won that last meeting at Anfield, producing one of the biggest shocks and most memorable runs in recent FA Cup history. They will be hoping the stars align for them again. Liverpool, who are two divisions higher than their visitors in the English football pyramid, are heavily favored by bookmakers to win this third-round tie.
There can’t be much fault in the bookies’ ratings, as Liverpool are fourth in the Premier League while Barnsley are 17th in League One. The two sides are 57 places apart in English football standings. Still, Liverpool can’t drop their guard, especially with the FA Cup among their most realistic avenues for silverware.

Liverpool - Barnsley: Form Analysis
The Reds are in strong form and are beginning their cup campaign, having not lost any of their previous 10 matches. Arne Slot’s men have regrouped after a devastating dip in form between September and November.
In this unbeaten stretch, their longest thus far this season, Liverpool have won five times. They, however, haven’t managed to get on the winning side in their last three outings. The Merseyside club drew 0-0 with current Premier League leaders Arsenal in midweek, a result that kept them in the hunt for a top-four finish.
Liverpool lost 2-1 at home to Barnsley in the quarter-finals of the 2007/08 FA Cup.
Down in League One, Barnsley are hovering just above the relegation zone. Despite being up against a giant in Liverpool, who could pile on their misery, Barnsley will be happy to switch their attention to the cup. They are unbeaten in the tournament, and it is where two of their last five victories across all competitions have been registered.
This winning start, coupled with a trip to Anfield, will bring back memories of the club's famous run to the FA Cup semis. The Tykes defeated League One rivals Peterborough away from home 1-0 in the previous round. Barnsley, who haven’t won in their last four fixtures, drew 0-0 away to Wigan in the league last time out.

Liverpool & Barnsley Squad Analysis
Liverpool are going through a bit of an injury crisis. Conor Bradley was the latest to enter the treatment room after he suffered a knee injury against Arsenal. The defender is out of this game and joins Alexander Isak, Wataru Endo, and possibly Hugo Ekitike on the sidelines.
Talismanic forward Mohamed Salah is also unavailable as he is away on international duty at the AFCON. Missing Isak and Salah was already a big blow, but adding Ekitike leaves the Reds without serious bite in attack. There is also a huge possibility that Arne Slot will tinker with his side and allow some young players to feature. One of those expected to be involved is forward Rio Ngumoha.
Dealing with an injury crisis, Arne Slot could turn to his fringe players.
Barnsley will be without defender Luca Connell, who is suspended after his red card against Wigan. With the Tykes having no recent injuries, Connell is the only player expected to miss this game.
Davis Keillor-Dunn has scored 13 goals for Barnsley this season, with two of those goals coming in the FA Cup. He will lead the line at Anfield with David McGoldrick and Patrick Kelly in support.

Our Liverpool vs Barnsley Prediction
This fixture has significant history in the FA Cup, and Barnsley will look to keep that going. With Liverpool expected to make significant changes to the starting line-up, we are set for an FA Cup classic. Barnsley are a strong attacking team despite their struggles this season and have scored four goals already in two FA Cup fixtures.
They also have top scorer Davis Keillor-Dunn available. Liverpool, on their part, are one of the best attacking teams in England, and despite their injury concerns, have enough reserves to put Barnsley under pressure. Our prediction for Liverpool v Barnsley is BTTS.
Liverpool vs Barnsley - Other Interesting Predictions
Liverpool to win
In our second prediction, we’ll back Liverpool to win. The Reds have been in strong form and have made it extremely hard for their recent opponents. With their Premier League title credentials faltering as well as being out of the League Cup, the hosts will see this as their best bet for silverware this season.
Even with the expected changes, they should be able to get the better of a team that is struggling in League One.
