Leandro Riedi is having his best-ever performance at a tour event, let alone a major. The Swiss player, who made his Grand Slam debut at this year’s Wimbledon, has recorded his first-ever wins at a major in New York.

He defeated Pedro Martinez in straights in the first round and then 19th seed Francisco Cerundolo in five sets. In his last round, however, a bit of luck was involved as Kamil Majchrzak was forced to pull out with injury in the first set.

Riedi, who has shot up a massive 271 places in the live ranking, is on a six-match winning streak.

Alex de Minaur also saw his last opponent pull out of their contest with an injury. The Australian, who is one win away from back-to-back Flushing Meadows quarter-finals, defeated Daniel Altmaier 2-1.

After losing the first set, de Minaur fought back to take the next two sets. He was ahead in the fourth set before Altmaier went down. The world number eight has made the last eight in four of his last six appearances at a major.
