Lucky loser Arthur Gea will want to make the most of his US Open reprieve. He has a good chance of reaching round two as he takes on unseeded Juan Manuel Cerundolo in round one. Examining the stats, our prediction here is more than 0.5 tie-breaks to be played. 

Whoever wins will take on either Zachary Svajda or Daniel Altmaier in round two, both unseeded.

Juan Manuel Cerundolo was 51st in the last rankings, 35 places above his opponent. Last week saw him make it to the quarter-finals in Winston Salem, losing to the eventual champion Ignacio Buse.

Three of his last five matches have seen at least one tie-break played.

Last year saw him lose in the qualifying rounds of this outdoor hard court Grand Slam with a tie-break in his final match.

Arthur Gea has won 20 of his 23 matches played on this surface in 2026. He won the Noumea Challenger Tour event earlier in the year and recently was the champion in the ATP Tour event played in Los Cabos. That included a win over his opponent's brother, Francisco.

He won two qualifiers here before losing to Nishesh Basavareddy but was then reinstated as a lucky loser..
