Italy begin their bid to win a third consecutive Davis Cup. The defending champions are top seeds and in the last eight face unseeded Austria. Can the Austrians dethrone the champions? Read our match prediction below.
1971 saw the USA win a third consecutive Davis Cup title and no one has achieved that since. Italy hope to do so this year, especially with them having home advantage on the indoor hard courts of Bologna.
They will have to do so without Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti but they still have a strong squad for this tie. Their singles players are expected to be Flavio Cobolli and Lorenzo Sonego (both in the top 40) with Matteo Berrettini another option.
Vavassori and Bolelli are their doubles team and reached the last four of this year's ATP Finals at the weekend..
Austria beat Hungary 3-2 to reach these finals in Bologna. They are up against it here though as their highest ranked singles player is world number 79 Filip Misolic. Also in their squad is Jurij Rodionov and he’s only ranked 177th.
Both of their scheduled doubles players (Miedler and Erler) are ranked below their Italian counterparts.
We tip Italy to win this tie and face either France or Belgium in the last four.

Italy are without Sinner and Musetti but are still the heavy odds-on favorites to reach the semi-fnals of this tournament. They still have three players in their squad who are all ranked higher than those Austria has avaiilable to them.
