Fenerbahce seek to boost their Europa League knockout round chances when they welcome Aston Villa this week. With two rounds left to play in the league phase, the Canaries are currently sitting in 12th place, four points behind their visitors, who are third. This is the first meeting between these two sides in almost 50 years and we have a prediction for the match below.
Villa won both home and away when they last met, coincidentally, in the Europa League, back in 1977. This one is definitely one of the toughest fixtures of the round Fenerbahce come into this match in red-hot form, whereas the Villans have been sporadic and are coming off a loss.
The visitors will feel less pressured here, as they have already secured a knockout phase spot. The push is now for Fenerbahce, who are yet to confirm a similar slot. We are on for a big match at the Chobani Stadium in Istanbul!

Fenerbahce Istanbul - Aston Villa: Form Analysis
Fenerbahce are seeking to end the league phase among the top eight teams. The Turkish giants will be confident of clawing closer to achieving that, given their superb form. Domenico Tedesco’s men have lost just once since the final weekend of September, going undefeated in 20 of 21 matches.
Recently, they have taken things up a notch, winning seven of eight outings. Fener claimed a fourth consecutive victory when they edged a five-goal thriller away to Alanyaspor to keep in hot pursuit of the Turkish Super League. Tied with two other teams on 11 points in the UEL, Efsane earned a dominant 4-0 victory away to Brann in the last round.
Villa eyes top spot at the close of the league phase.
Villa can end the league phase on top if they win their remaining fixtures. They are tied with Lyon and Midtjylland, with goal difference separating them. Unai Emery’s men have lost just once in the competition and won five. They earned a hard-fought 2-1 victory away to Basel on matchday six, with the result part of an incredible 11-game winning streak.
That win confirmed Villa’s progress into the next round as a seeded team. Since losing that exceptional winning run, the Lions haven’t been the same. They have been unable to secure consecutive wins in the five matches that have followed, winning just twice. Villa are coming off a 1-0 loss at home to Everton.

Fenerbahce Istanbul & Aston Villa Squad Analysis
Youssef En-Nesyri has been the subject of transfer talks this January. He is yet to return after the recently concluded AFCON and might miss out here. Archie Brown, Levent Mercan, and Sebastian Szymanski are unavailable due to injury.
The hosts will also have new signings Mert Gunok, Anthony Musaba, and Matteo Guendouzi unavailable. The absences are a big blow, but Fener have a strong squad with former Aston Villa players Jhon Duran and Marco Asensio available.
Anderson Talisca has scored 17 goals, four coming in five Europa League outings.
Villa were dealt a big blow this weekend with captain John McGinn suffering a knee injury in the loss to Everton. With fellow midfielders Amadou Onana, Ross Barkley, and Boubacar Kamara also sidelined, the visitors have been left almost bare in the engine room. Donyell Malen, scorer of seven goals with three coming in the UEL, has recently switched clubs.
This leaves Ollie Watkins, who is yet to score in Europe, as the only option in the number 9 role. Jadon Sancho missed the last match due to illness and isn’t a guaranteed inclusion at the moment for this trip. Morgan Rogers’ Villa’s top scorer with eight goals, will be a sure starter to support Watkins.
