Ireland play their first home game in the 2026 Six Nations tournament. The home side are fifth in the table and are playing Italy who are in third position. Can Gil Azzurri get a second win? Read our match prediction below.
It's a strange situation for Ireland to find themselves playing Italy and being below them in the Six Nations table. Last weekend saw them beaten 36-14 in Paris and they were no match for Les Bleus.
That was the latest loss for Ireland after home defeats to New Zealand and South Africa. Coach Andy Farrell said there was a lot of "soul searching" by the squad after that loss. Six changes have been made for this game in Dublin.
Ireland have won 19 of their 20 previous home matches against Italy, only losing to them in 1997.
Overall, Italy have lost their last 16 matches against Ireland since a home win 13 years ago.
Italy beat Scotland 18-15 at home last weekend and have only made one change for this trip to Dublin. A second win for Gil Azzurri would be a major shock. They will find this a much more difficult task. Although Ireland lost to France last week, they dominated the line-outs.
