Griquas and Western Province will step out for the final time in the 2024 Currie Cup season when they face off at the Suzuki Stadium in Kimberley on Friday. The Peacock Blues are seventh in the standings heading into the last week of the group stage, while Province are sixth. Let’s jump into the prediction. 

Griquas will take their final bow of the competition this week. For a second season in a row, the men from the Northern Cape are second-bottom in the Currie Cup standings, only above minnows the Griffons. 

The Peacock Blues have posted a couple of positive results this season though, beating the Sharks 34-31 back in week two and downing the Cheetahs at this venue last week 44-31, putting the defending champions’ playoff hopes in jeopardy in the process. 

While this match will have no impact on the race for the top four, a victory for Griquas will mean a lot here, as it will see them leapfrog Province in the table, marking an improvement on last season’s performance. 

Meanwhile, Western Province have had another unimpressive domestic competition and are likely to use this match as preparation for the upcoming United Rugby Championship abroad.

Province have a record of three wins and six defeats in the competition but did pull off a somewhat unexpected 39-30 victory over playoff hopefuls the Pumas on the West Coast last weekend. 

The visitors will undoubtedly want to end the season on a high note but rest assured, Griquas will not make it easy for them in this one.
