Saturday’s Currie Cup fixtures kickstart at Ellis Park Stadium where the Golden Lions will be playing host to Western Province. The hosts are currently in second place in the table while the visitors are sixth. Here’s our match prediction. 

After finishing in sixth place last term, the Golden Lions have been one of the most improved teams this season, currently in second place in the standings with 23 points. 

A major upturn in their performance has been in their attack, which has already scored 239 points this season, which has also helped the side earn three bonus points. 

Last week, the Lions completely annihilated the Pumas here at Ellis Park 55-12, which took their record this season to five wins and just one loss, which was against the Sharks back in week four. 

This is the first meeting of the season between these sides.

Meanwhile, Western Province are having another underwhelming Currie Cup campaign, currently third-bottom with 14 points after the first six weeks of the competition. 

They have earned 14 points to date with a record of two wins and four losses, though they have managed to claim six bonus points, four of which were for tries scored and two for losing by fewer than seven points. 

Province lost at home to the Cheetahs 26-19 last weekend, and have only won one of their three away games this season.
