Both of these clubs made a winning start in their 2023/24 European Rugby Challenge Cup campaign. Gloucester are third in Pool 3, a place behind the visitors Clermont with Castres leading the way after one fixture. The home side won away at Black Lion 15-10. All of their points came from penalties scored by George Barton. They failed to score a bonus point though so are a point behind the top two in the pool. The top four qualify for the knockout rounds so another win here would greatly boost their qualification hopes. Beating Black Lion last week was a welcome victory for Gloucester. They only have one team below them in the English Premiership and had lost their last six games before last weekend's victory. Home form has produced a win over third placed Harlequins but also three losses.

Clermont also got off to a winning start with a 31-18 home win over Edinburgh last weekend. Three tries in the game ensured that they received a bonus point taking their tally to five and second in the pool. Clermont are eighth in Top 14 with five wins and four defeats leaving them only outside the play-off positions on points difference. They do struggle on their travels though with three of their four Top 14 fixtures played this season being lost. Their only win came at Montpellier who are bottom of Top 14. They only won that game by three points. We tip Gloucester to get a home win this weekend and overcome a -4 points handicap.
