Gabriel Diallo was only ranked 143rd in the latest ranking list. That means he had to go through the qualifying rounds to get through to the main draw. Two of his three wins saw him drop a set.
That was also the case in his first round match when he beat Jaume Munar in four sets. It was more of the same in round two as he defeated the 24th seed Arthur Fils in four sets after losing the second.
