The Cheetahs plays host to the Pumas at the Toyota Stadium in this penultimate round match of the Carling Currie Cup. The home team suffered their first loss of the season in their last outing when they went down to the Griquas. They are now in second place on the table, six points behind the Bulls although they have a game in hand. The Cheetahs will be looking for a bonus point win that will take them to within one point of the Bulls who have a bye this weekend. The Cheetahs face the Bulls next week in the final round of matches as both teams will be fighting for top spot. The team that finishes first will get home ground advantage for the playoffs. The Cheetahs are unbeaten at home this season and have scored two bonus points wins at home.

The Pumas lost their last match when they went down to the Bulls 31-26 at Loftus Versfeld. They were in control of the match but a red card to Tinus De Beer turned the match on his head. This still managed to run the Bulls close with 14 men and got two bonus points in the match for scoring four tries and losing by less than seven points. These points could yet prove to be vital in the playoff race. The defeat has now left them with a mountain to climb to make the playoffs. They will need to win this match or risk losing out on the semi-final. If they lose this match and both the Sharks and Griquas win then they will be eliminated from playoff contention.
