The second Washington Open semi-final will be contested by fourth seed Sebastian Korda and fifth seeded Frances Tiafoe. After two straight losses against Korda, will Tiafoe rise to the occasion? Read on for our preview and a prediction of the match.

These two are meeting for the sixth time, with Tiafoe eyeing a fourth win against Korda. To get to this stage, Tiafoe saw off Andrey Rublev in straight sets. Tiafoe’s first win in straights at Washington followed on three-set victories against Daniel Elahi Galan and Aleksandar Kovaceic.

It is his first time in the last four in DC and the American will be looking to go all the way and claim the title. A 19-17 record gives him the needed momentum, having also risen one place to 27th in the live ranking.

Korda also won his quarter-final encounter in straight sets, beating Jordan Thompson in his third match in DC. He has 25 wins in 2024 and has won 11 of 17 on hard courts. The American has dropped just one set in Washington – in defeating Thanasi Kokkinakis who retired with injury in the third set of their contest.

Korda’s fourth appearance in the Washington Open has now produced his best performance, having only reached the quarters earlier. Being on two straight wins over Tiafoe should add to his confidence of going all the way.

Should he win here, Korda will play in his second final of the year. He finished as runner-up in Hertogenbosch, adding to semi-final appearances in Adelaide and London. The 24-year-old is now 20th in the live ranking, improving by one spot after his last win.
