Fourth-placed Airlink Pumas face a tough battle to secure their place in the play-offs as they host second-placed Toyota Cheetahs in the final round of the 2026 Currie Cup league phase at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday. Cheetahs have won each of the last four meetings between the two sides, including five of their six matches in the competition this season, hence our prediction backing them to ace this contest. 

Airlink Pumas suffered a blow to their play-off hopes after losing 38–14 to Suzuki Griquas last week. That result ended their three-match winning run and left them with just a one-point cushion above the play-off line. 

The Mbombela-based outfit now need a win on Saturday to strengthen their chances of finishing in the top four. They have lost four of their last five Currie Cup home fixtures dating back to last season, including each of their last three meetings with Toyota Cheetahs at Mbombela Stadium. 

Toyota Cheetahs made it three wins in a row after defeating Boland Kavaliers 33–24 in their last match to seal their spot in the play-offs with one round left. They are now level  with league leaders Suzuki Griquas on 26 points and will be out to claim the top spot.

François Steyn’s charges have won five of their six matches in the competition. They have also secured victories in each of their last four Currie Cup encounters with Airlink Pumas.
