Equatorial Guinea and Sudan started their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign with a loss and will feel the need to get points on matchday two. This Group E match between the third-placed Red Devils and the fourth-placed Falcons in Casablanca on Sunday comes with our prediction of a win for Equatorial Guinea.

Equatorial Guinea lost 2-1 to Burkina Faso on matchday one, where they conceded twice in stoppage time. Sudan were beaten 3-0 by Algeria in their first game of the tournament. Equatorial Guinea - Sudan: Form Analysis

Equatorial Guinea lost 2-1 to Botswana in their opening group fixture. Despite losing Basilio Ndong to a 50th-minute red card, they took a lead in the 85th minute through Marvin Anieboh. That wasn’t enough, though, as Botswana struck late in stoppage time.

The loss marked a fourth defeat in their last six matches (W1, D1), including an awarded match. Having qualified for the knockouts in each of their last four appearances in the AFCON finals, Equatorial Guinea will look to make the most of this fixture.

Equatorial Guinea and Sudan met only twice before, back in 2018-2019.

Sudan lost both those games and also started this tournament with a 3-0 defeat to Algeria. After conceding a second-minute goal, Sudan were left ruing a 39th-minute red card for Adil Salaheldin as they conceded two more beyond the hour mark.

The result was in line with how poor their recent form has been. Sudan were beaten in nine of their last 13 matches, drawing three and losing just once, with two of those defeats coming beyond regulation time.

Equatorial Guinea & Sudan Squad Analysis

Ndong is out of contention for Equatorial Guinea after his red card on matchday one. They shuffled the pack by introducing Charles Ondo in that game, and he could start from the offset here.

The Red Devils lined up in a 4-4-2 formation in that loss to Botswana and could use the same system here. That could leave them recalling Emilio Nsue to be one of the strikers to add teeth to their attack.

Nsue is their all-time top scorer with 22 goals from 49 matches.

Sudan will be without Alhassan after he received his red card on matchday one against Algeria. There are also doubts over the availability of Eisa Abobaker and Mohamed Abuaagla.

The Falcons lined up in a 4-3-3 system with Alhassan as one of their strikers. That could pave the way for Mohamed Abdelrahman to be recalled, after he played only 23 minutes against Algeria. Abdelrahman has 23 goals from 62 international appearances and could be their go-to man to get something from this fixture.

Our Equatorial Guinea vs Sudan Prediction

With Algeria more likely to win the top spot in the group, the teams are perhaps playing for the second and third spots. That puts pressure on both teams for this fixture, as the loser is more likely to be eliminated from even the possible third-place knockout berths. Equatorial Guinea had a slightly better game against Burkina Faso on matchday one, but with Algeria next, they can’t afford to drop points here.

Sudan’s recent poor run could end up as their bane, and our Equatorial Guinea vs Sudan prediction is Equatorial Guinea wins.

Emilio Nsue to score anytime

Odds 3.25

Emilio Nsue is Equatorial Guinea’s top scorer in their history with 22 goals. The 36-year-old veteran was an unused substitute in their first match, perhaps because the red card changed their plans. He could be set for a starting role in this fixture and may respond with a goal.
