England will prepare to do battle with neighbours Scotland in their first match of the 2023 Six Nations tournament, which will be played on Saturday evening in what’s expected to be a packed house at Twickenham Stadium. Last year’s Six Nations tournament turned out to be a disappointing one for the English, who finished in third place, managing just two wins in their five matches. That tournament came shortly after losing the Calcutta Cup to this opposition, and after an underwhelming Autumn season, the English decided to part ways with Eddie Jones and appoint Steve Borthwick as the man to see them through this tournament. England is ranked fifth in the World standings, five points behind South Africa and two above Australia, after following up last year's tournament with one win, one draw, and one loss.

Scotland, meanwhile, have held the Calcutta Cup since 2021 and will be looking for their third consecutive win over England for the first time in over five decades. Scotland finished in fourth place in this tournament last year with an almost identical record to England, separated only by a points difference. The Scotts are in seventh place in the world rankings following an average autumn interntional season, where they managed two wins and two defeats in their four matches. The visitors will find it difficult to overcome their passionate opposition in this one but know they have enough class in their squad to claim the points.
