The 23-20-14 New York Islanders travel to the Central Division leaders, the 35-16-8 Dallas Stars. The Stars ended a four-game losing streak with a dour win in Carolina against the Hurricanes, but they will be looking to find their feet on offence again after both the New York Rangers and the Ottawa Senators held them to a single goal. Wyatt Johnston has done well given he is just a 20-year-old, continuing to produce even while the team is struggling offensively, scoring the winning goal in the Carolina game. Matt Duchene leads the team with seven game-winning goals which is impressive given that that is almost a third of the 22 that he has netted this season. Back at home should help them for a single game before they head out to Colorado for a huge clash with the Avalanche.
2024 has not been a good year for the Islanders but they have managed to just about pick up enough points to only be seven off the playoffs. That is still close enough with 25 games to go, but they are going to have to produce on the road where they are 10-12-5 this season compared to 13-8-9 at home. Mathew Barzal and Noah Dobson both have 60 points to lead the team, particularly impressive from Dobson given he is a defenceman. He has 25 points in 21 games in 2024, which is the most of any blue-liner this calendar year and third overall this season. Unfortunately, the other two pairs at the back away from Dobson and Alexander Romanov have not been as strong and that has been an issue, especially on their travels.
